Doxycycline is clinically effective in treating various infections caused by susceptible bacteria and micro-organisms, including respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, sexually transmitted diseases, and skin infections. It is also useful for ophthalmic infections, rickettsial infections, and other conditions like leptospirosis, gas gangrene, and tetanus.
Doxycycline Capsules are indicated for prophylaxis in conditions such as scrub typhus, travellers' diarrhea, leptospirosis, and malaria.
For adults and children, the usual dose is 200mg on the first day followed by a maintenance dose of 100mg/day. Dosage adjustments may be needed for specific populations.
Avoid doxycycline if there is hypersensitivity to the active substance, tetracyclines, or any excipients. It is contraindicated in pregnancy and nursing mothers.
Special precautions should be taken in the paediatric population, patients with impaired hepatic or renal function, and those prone to serious skin reactions or photosensitivity.
Doxycycline may interact with certain medications affecting its absorption and efficacy. Caution is advised when combining with antacids, anticoagulants, barbiturates, or other drugs.
Store below 25°C in a dry place to maintain the medication's stability.
