Dexamethason Sodium Phosphate Injection
Indications:
Dexamethason Solution for Injection is your go-to treatment for acute conditions where oral glucocorticoid therapy isn't an option. Its powerful efficacy makes it indispensable for:
Shock: Whether originating from haemorrhagic, traumatic, surgical, or septic causes. Also, effective against cerebral oedema linked with cerebral neoplasms, and a range of inflammatory joint and soft tissue diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis.
Short-term relief for acute, self-limited allergic conditions, including angioneurotic oedema. It's also highly effective in managing acute flare-ups of chronic allergic disorders like bronchial asthma or serum sickness.
Dosage and Administration:
The versatile Dexamethason sodium phosphate injection can be administered in multiple ways: intramuscularly, intraarticularly, directly intravenously, through intravenous infusion, or via soft tissue infiltration.
Intravenous and Intramuscular Administration: Dosing is highly adaptable, ranging from 0.4 to 20 mg (0.1 to 6 ml) daily, tailored to the condition being treated. The course of therapy depends on patient response, and dosage should be minimized as soon as improvement is noted. Gradual withdrawal is recommended upon completing therapy.
Precautions & Warnings:
Gradual withdrawal of Dexamethason is crucial.
Monitor for any visual disturbances.
Be cautious of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, especially in pediatric patients.
Contra-indications:
Corticosteroids are generally contraindicated in patients with systemic infections unless they are considered life-saving or specific anti-infective therapy is administered.
Avoid if there is hypersensitivity to any components of the injection.
Drug Interactions:
Be aware when using liver enzyme-inducing drugs.
Exercise caution with Coumarin anticoagulants.
Monitor interactions with anti-inflammatory drugs.
Use cautiously with salicylates.
Be vigilant with diuretic co-treatments.
Monitor closely when co-treating with CYP3A inhibitors.
