Composition:
Each suppository contains:
Artesunate: 50 mg
Artesunate : 100 mg
Artesunate: 200 mg
Excipients: Hard fat & Ethylparaben

Indications:
Initial treatment of acute, life-threatening malaria in patients who are unable to take oral antimalarials or for whom injectable therapy is not available. Dosage & administration:
Dosage
It is determined by body weight and is approximately 10 mg /kg body weight (8 to 16 mg/kg)
- Children


Administration for the first day of treatment is one dose and then another dose 12 hours later. For the following days, one dose per day until the relay by oral route or injection is possible.
-Adults
The dose is 200 mg every 8 hours until the relay by the oral route or injection is possible.
Administration
The suppository should be introduced deep into the anus as soon as the diagnosis of severe malaria is established.
In the event that the suppository is expelled within 30 minutes after introduction, it will be necessary to insert a new suppository and keep the patient's buttocks tight for5 to 10 minutes, especially in young children.
If the patient can not be sent to a hospital or health center,treatment with ARTESUPPO should be continued on a daily basis at the same initial dosage until the patient tolerates oral treatment.
Contraindications:
Do not take this medication if you are hypersensitive to Artesunate, one of the artemisinin derivatives or any of the components of the medication. Do not take this medication if you are pregnant unless your doctor has authorized it.
Warning and precautions of use
The suppository artesunate is not recommended for the prevention of malaria.
After initial treatment with the suppository artesunate, it is important to undergo an appropriate antimalarial treatment.
Ensure that the suppository is not expelled by the patient.
Drugs interaction:
No clinically significant interaction was reported between Artesunate and other products.
Pregnancy & breast feeding
Treatments with Artesunate were not evaluated during pregnancy.It is advisable not to take this medication during pregnancy and breastfeeding unless your doctor advises otherwise.
Side effects:
Like all medicines, suppository artesunate is likely to cause side effects,although not everyone is subject to them.
It is difficult in some cases to differentiate the side effects of the suppository Artesunate and the symptoms due to malaria.
The most common adverse reactions reported are:
Dizziness (feeling sickly, dizzy)
Fever
-Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, constipation
With similar antimalarial drugs (artemisinin and its derivatives), it has been reported:
Buzzing of ears (tinnitus)
A moderate decrease in the number of certain blood globules (reticulocytopenia and neutropenia)
Elevation of liver enzymes
Cardiac abnormalities (ECG abnormalities), including a slowing heart rate (bradycardia) and specific abnormalities of the ECG tracing with symptoms such as palpitations, fainting
Red patches, itching of the skin (urticaria) that could be severe
Storage
Store below 30 °C on a dry and dark place. Do not use after expiry date printed on the box and blister
Keep out of the reach of children.
