Formula:
chloramphenicol B.P.0.5% w/v
Phenylmercuric Nifrate B.P. 0.002% w/v
(as a preservative)
Indications;
1. Bacterial conjunctivttis (due to pneumococci, staphylococci, streptococci, gonococci, Morax bacillus, Koch-weeks bacillus, etc.). Chloramphenicol does not have any action or the agent responsible for conjunctivitis or viral keratoconjunctivitis, but combats the bacterial over infection,
sometimes very pronounced in these cases, and thus distances grave complications.
2. Bacterial keratitis, in the case of intracorneal aboesses or keratitis rosacea one can combine a systemic treatment with local therapy.
Contra-indications:
Chloramphenicol is contra-indicated in persons with previous history of hypersensitivity to CMoramphenicol ailments which can conceal a hemopathy or whrch require a prolonged treatment forbkJding the use of the drops.
Chloramphenicol shoukJ not be used in minor infections nor as a prophylactic agent against bacterial infection.
