Indications:
Calcium Gluconate Injection is used to treat conditions arising from calcium deficiencies such as hypocalcemic tetany, hypocalcemia related to hypoparathyroidism and hypocalcemia due to rapid growth of pregnancy. It is also used in the treatment of black widow spider bites to relieve muscle cramping and as an adjunct in the treatment of rickets, osteomalacia, lead colic and magnesium sulfate overdosage. Calcium gluconate has also been employed to decrease capillary permeability in allergic conditions, nonthrombocytopnic pupura and exudative dermatoses such as dermatitis herpetiformis and for pruritus of eruptions caused by certain drugs. In hyperkalemia, calcium gluconate may aid in antagonizing the cardiac toxicity, provided the patient is not receiving digitalis therapy.
Usage:
IV Diluted with 10% glucose injection and injected slowly, not more than 5ml per minute. Adults for hypocalcemia, 1g at a time, can be repeated as needed; For hypermagnesia, 1-2g at a time; For the relief of fluorosis, intravenous injection of 1g of this product, repeated 1 hour later, if any tetany can be injected 3g; If there is fluoride damage to skin tissue, apply 10% calcium gluconate 50mg per square centimeter of damaged area. Children for hypocalcemia, according to the body weight of 25mg/kg(6.8mg calcium) slow intravenous injection. However, because of the irritation, this product is generally not used for children.
Contra-indications:
Calcium salts are contraindicated in patients with ventricular fibrillation or hypercalcemia. Intravenous administration of calcium is contraindicated when serum calcium levels are above normal.
Precautions & Warning:
Precautions: If the intravenous injection leaks out of the blood vessel, it can cause redness, rash and pain of the skin at the injection site, and may be followed by peeling and tissue necrosis. If the liquid is found to leak out of the blood vessel, the injection should be stopped immediately, and sodium chloride injection should be used as local irrigation injection.
